SAFE: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Certification Training in Yosemite

In conjunction with Gut-Z Journey Wilderness Medicine, the FPU Wilderness Studies Program hosts an annual Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and re-certification course in beautiful and historic Wawona, Yosemite National Park. This certification is for anyone who wants to feel more prepared for their next outdoor adventure. A WFR is often required or highly desired for folks looking to work in outdoor or remote environments.

As stated on Gut-Z Journey’s website, “this comprehensive curriculum includes the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical emergencies in rural, isolated, and extreme environments. Learn how to identify common backcountry problems as serious vs not serious. Gain the confidence to make the right medical decisions, evaluate risk and take action to help yourself and others in an emergency. This course focuses on hands-on, practical skills to manage all aspects of an emergency.”

Among other things, this certification covers topics such as making evacuation plans, CPR, stop the bleed, epinephrine for anaphylaxis, splinting, treating dislocations, environmental toxins, wound care and more. See gutzjourney.com for full course content and description.
