No. 2 Sunbirds dump No. 3 Vanguard 8-1

Costa Mesa - The No. 2 ranked Sunbirds made short work of No. 3 Vanguard in what was billed as an early season showdown between to of the best NAIA teams in the country. The Sunbirds sent a message with an 8-1 win.

The only blemish on an otherwise perfect outing was an 8-5 loss at No. 3 doubles where Hana Jurcovicova & Olivia Amstad got the better of Megan Hanner and Amandine Ferot.

Jelena Pandzic led the FPU charge with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Amy Brown at No. 1 singles. Pandzic and partner Audrey Laib were and 8-1 winner over Brown and Damia Donkervoort.

"We were ready to play and we played well," said FPU head coach Neil Castro. "This was a big match, a big test. I am pleased."

The Sunbirds are now 3-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play and 8-0 overall. They will take a break from GSAC action next Tuesday when the travel to Fullerton for a 2:00 PM date with the Cal State Fullerton Titans.

The Sunbirds return to GSAC play on Saturday, March 3, when they host the Biola University Eagles at the Haak Tennis Complex. Match-time is 2:00 PM.
