Saturday, February 3, 2007 - Santa Barbara Santa Barbara - The Sunbirds opened defense of their Golden State Conference crown with a 9-0 romp over the Westmont College Warriors in Santa Barbara this afternoon. Jelena Pandzic teamed with freshman Audrey Laib for the first time and the started the afternoon off with an 8-0 win over Lorelei Belindean and Gillian Ayers at No. 1 doubles. That set the tone as Angelina Minova and Anna Karavayeva followed with an identical 8-0 win over Jennie Dunn & Lauren DiSalvo. Megan Hanner and Brittany Salley dropped only two games on route to an 8-3 win over Sarah Kamida & Gabriela Michel. So dominant were the Sunbirds that their toughest match of the day came at No. 5 where Amandine Ferot lost a total of three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sarah Kamida. Pandzic and Hanner won their matches at No. 1 and 6, respectively, with identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. The Sunbirds take a break from GSAC play next week when they travel south for a pair of matches. They will be in Los Angeles on Tuesday to take on Cal State Los Angels, then move to San Diego for a Wednesday match against UC San Diego. Both opponents have NCAA Division 2 affiliation. Records |
